Renowned for its population of wild chimpanzees, it offers a rare opportunity to observe these fascinating creatures up close. The park, a serene landscape of lush forests and tranquil lake views, was the site of Jane Goodall's groundbreaking chimpanzee research. Beyond chimpanzees, Gombe Stream is home to a variety of primates and rich biodiversity. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Gombe Stream National Park is renowned for its wild chimpanzee populations, the research conducted by Jane Goodall, and its lush, diverse landscapes. It's a prime spot for primate watching, including habituated chimpanzees, and offers a unique, intimate safari experience.

The best way to reach Gombe Stream National Park is by taking a domestic flight to Kigoma from Dar es Salaam or Arusha, followed by a lake taxi or private boat ride. While more comfortable, private charters are costlier than lake taxis.

Apart from chimpanzee trekking, Gombe Stream offers guided forest walks, birdwatching, and sundowner boat trips on Lake Tanganyika. Snorkelling and diving in the lake to explore its rich marine life are also popular activities.

For optimal chimpanzee trekking in Gombe Stream National Park, the ideal period is between June and October, the latter part of the dry season. This is when chimpanzees usually stay on the lower slopes, facilitating quicker sightings. Conversely, during the wet season, finding chimpanzees may require more time, often three to four hours, as they tend to move deeper into the forest.

Besides chimpanzees, Gombe Stream is home to other primates like olive baboons, red colobus, and blue monkeys. It's also a habitat for diverse bird species, butterflies, and occasionally, leopards and bushpigs, offering a rich wildlife viewing experience.
