Shira Route

Shira's Scenic Kilimanjaro Journey

Experience Mount Kilimanjaro's majesty through the Shira Route's unique perspective. This route, originating near the Shira Ridge, shares its trajectory with the Lemosho Route. Yet, the Shira Route differs because of its distinct starting point and high altitude. In fact, it is a less traversed path offering tranquillity and panoramic vistas. With years of mountaineering proficiency, Simba Safaris recommends the Shira Route for its diversity and scenic splendour while advising trekkers to be mindful of the initial high altitude.

The journey through the Umbwe Route unfolds from the west. Trekkers start their hike on the ridge, traversing the vast Shira Plateau with ease and awe. The path then leads beneath the Southern Ice Field of Kilimanjaro, following the Southern Circuit, and culminating in a summit attempt from Barafu. The return follows the Mweka route, concluding a memorable expedition. Mostly, it takes 7 to 8 days to complete the trek.

Simba Safaris – Tanzania – East Africa, has Followed this simple yet successful formula for over Fifty years and it has earned us a reputation as the finest luxury safari operator in East Africa. Despite the challenging global situation, we have no plans to change our “modus operandi” and we plan to enhance it further.
